1340 WMSA's Sandy Cook Hospitalized in Burlington, VT

Early last week during his first vacation of the year, WMSA's Sandy Cook was transferred to Fletcher Allen Health Care Centre in Burlington, VT after an overnight stay at Massena Memorial Hospital.  He continues to be hospitalized in Burlington after minor surgery on his leg.  Sandy tells us at the radio station that he has just been able to get out of bed and walk for a few minutes after being bed ridden for about a week and a half.  He is ok and is recovering, but it is very slow.  "And worst of all…they don't have the YES Network in the hospital!" he said.  Sandy tells us that the earliest he may be released will be toward the end of next week, where he will continue his recovery either at home or at a facility.

Sandy is in Baird 622 at Fletcher Allen in Burlington.  Anyone wishing to send a card or letter may do so at this address…

You may also email Sandy by clicking HERE, and the hospital will deliver the message to him.

The thing Sandy needs right now is to know we are thinking of him and show him our support.  We will keep our listeners informed on his recovery and return to Massena!

A Brief History of WMSA
On October 12, 1945, WMSA radio in Massena, owned by the Brockway Company of Watertown, began its first broadcast at 1340 AM.  The station was established by media mogul Harold B. Johnson, president of the  Brockway company and the editor-publisher of the Watertown Daily Times.  Thomas McHugh served as the first station manager for nearly twenty-seven years.  Jim Higgins was the first program director.
In September 1948, WMSA launched an FM station that continued in operation only until 1960.  The company also experimented with stereo broadcasting on both AM and FM, before such operation became a regular part of the industry.
The company changed hands several times.  Black River Communications took over the operation in 1980, following by two short term owners in the mid 1990s.  WMSA was acquired by Martz Communications in 1999, before being sold to the Stephens Media Group on February 1, 2008.
